We care about a
sustainable future
Kinmana Organics specialise in ‘paddock to plate’ service. Their principles are simple: “Our farming methods reflect our desire and commitment to provide a safe and sustainable place for future generations.”
“Our focus is on creating a farming system that works in harmony with nature to improve quality of life for every creature involved.”
Regenerative Farming
Our focus at Kinmana Organics is on creating a farming system that works in harmony with nature to improve quality of life for every creature involved. We believe and practice that giving back to the soil nurtures our fragile ecosystem and supports life on all levels. Not just for today, or tomorrow, but for many generations to come.
How do we do this?
1) Holistic Management
2) Giving back to the earth, more than we take.
3) Working with Nature, nurturing our resources.
4) Feeding the “micro-herd” (soil microbes – Creates more soil, promotes life and improves water retention)
5) Permaculture and biodiversity, not mono-culture. Many species living, sharing and working together in a healthy ecosystem.
6) Livestock foraging in sustainably managed rotational grazing system.
“We care about the soil, because we know that healthy soil = healthy animals = healthy people!”
Sustainability for our animals
We care about transparency, provenance, high welfare and food miles.
Our Chickens
Our chickens are certified organic on farm, Proof certified and grown right here at Marama in South Australia. We ensure optimal welfare by having a maximum rate of 200 hens per ha. Hen mobile shelters are moved in a rotation to ensure biodiversity and soil cover is maintained. Our Maremma dogs protect our chickens and hens 24 hours a day from foxes, hawks, eagles and wild cats. We also use electric fencing to provide protection so that our chickens can forage freely and enjoy the diversity of our land including feeding on; cereal cropping stubble, summer/winter perennial native grasses, Lucerne, primrose and the small creatures that live in their environment. Our chickens also receive certified organic sorghum, wheat, mung beans, and sunflower oil. Nutritional supplements include minerals, certified organic bull-kelp meal and shell grit. We will only ever provide our animals with organic produce that is free from GMO’s, Soy and other chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides.
Our Sheep
Careful selection and on-farm breeding of Dorper sheep ensures minimal intervention – they don’t need shearing, crutching and mulesing and are disease resistant. The Dorper breed have excellent lambing percentages, feed utilisation and conversion and thrive in our South Australian climatic conditions. The dorper ewe is very protective of her young. There is no need for human intervention at lambing time, and she produces a large quantity of milk, helping in survival and early growth of the lamb. The Kinmana organic livestock are treated with natural and organic methods for animal health.
